The problem

Your attention is being sold.

Every feed is a slot machine. The scroll never ends because it was never meant to. You’re not fighting a habit — you’re fighting an industry of designers paid to keep you there.

Why we built this

We don’t think all screen time is bad. We think unconscious.

Impulse helps you be intentional — not through guilt or rules, but by giving you control over the impulse, not the dopamine.

The Impulse team

How it works

Simple by design. Powerful by nature.

  1. Choose what to block

Pick the apps and sites that steal your focus — Instagram, TikTok, X.

  2. Set your schedule

Work hours, study, bedtime. Block on autopilot, or trigger Quick Focus when you need it.

  3. Pick your strictness

From a gentle nudge to a physical lock you genuinely can’t cheat.

  4. Live your life

Watch your screen time fall and your hours come back.

Features

Everything you need to take back control.

Strict blocks

Blocks that can’t be paused.

Create profiles like Work, Study or Bedtime, each with its own sites and schedule. Strict blocks can’t be bypassed or paused: they end when they end.

  • By day and time slot. Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 13:00, automatically.
  • Set it once and focus runs on its own, with nothing left to touch.

Time and opening limits

Not just how long. How many times.

Give YouTube 30 minutes a day. Give Instagram 5 openings. Capping how often you open an app cuts the automatic reach far earlier than capping the minutes does.

  • Total time per day in minutes, per site or per app.
  • Maximum openings per day, the limit almost nobody else offers.
New limit form in Impulse for iPhone: daily time limit, a daily opening limit set to 5, weekly frequency and difficulty level.
On your phone

We stop you right before the scroll.

Before letting you into an app we show you how long you’ve been on it today and how many times you’ve already tried. Usually, seeing it is enough to close it.

  • Today’s screen time, in front of you, at the exact moment it matters.
  • Your opening attempts, counted. The number no other app shows you.

Statistics

See where your time actually goes.

Today’s screen time, openings, blocks kept and the apps eating the most of it. No lecturing: just the numbers you need to decide what to change.

  • By hour and by app, so you see the pattern, not just the total.
  • It all stays on your device. No server ever sees it.

Desktop and mobile

Most blockers stop at your phone. Ours doesn’t.

Distraction just hops to the laptop. So Impulse is also a Chrome and Safari extension, with its own blocker for the computer that works without your phone in front of you.

And the bridge between them? Your phone. Tap it against your Disc or any NFC tag and the desktop block lifts. The off-switch stops living on the same screen as the temptation.

  • Independent desktop blocking. Set it up on the computer; no phone required.
  • Single-tab mode. You stay on the tab you’re on and everything else goes quiet.
  • Unlock the computer with your phone. One NFC tap ends a desktop blocking period.
  • And soon, a native macOS app, with the same bridge.

Four levels of friction

Physical is the new top rung.

Dial in exactly how hard it is to unblock. Physical is the one you genuinely can’t cheat in a weak moment.

Focus mode settings in Impulse for iPhone, showing the Basic, Medium, Hard and Physical difficulty levels, with Physical selected and the scan-NFC-card button.
  1. Basic

Turn it off whenever you want

A gentle nudge — enough to make you pause for a second.

  2. Medium

    A one-minute countdown

The urge usually passes before the timer does.

  3. Hard

    Supervisor approval

An accountability partner holds the key.

  4. Physical

    Scan your NFC tag

The off-switch lives across the room. No workaround.

Reviews

People love Impulse.

I was spending 5+ hours on TikTok daily. After two weeks with Impulse, I’m down to 45 minutes. This app literally changed my life.

Finally something that actually works. The strict mode is no joke — you CAN’T cheat it. Exactly what I needed.
Sarah K. · App Store
Installed the Chrome extension for work and my productivity went through the roof. No more ‘just checking Twitter’ at 2pm.
James R. · Chrome Web Store
I love that it’s not preachy. It doesn’t guilt-trip you. It just… blocks stuff. Simple and effective.
Ana P. · App Store
The scheduling feature is brilliant. My phone automatically blocks social media during work hours. Set it once and forget it.
David L. · App Store
I tried 4 other blockers before this. Impulse is the only one with strict mode you can’t disable mid-session. THAT’S the difference.

FAQ

Answers.

Is Impulse free?
Yes. The core blocker is 100% free on iPhone, Android and Chrome, with no account and no credit card. Scheduled blocks, Quick Focus and screen-time insights cost nothing. Impulse Pro adds unlimited rules, strict mode and Focus Groups for those who want more, but you can take back hours every day without paying a cent.
How is Impulse different from other focus apps?
Three things. It works on both your phone and your browser, so distraction can’t just hop to your laptop. It has strictness levels you genuinely can’t bypass in a weak moment, up to a physical tap. And it never guilt-trips you: it blocks what you choose, when you choose, then gets out of the way.
How does Impulse block apps and websites on iPhone?
On iOS, Impulse uses Apple’s Screen Time API — the same secure framework Apple built for this. On the desktop it runs as a Chrome and Safari extension. You create profiles, pick what to block, then activate on a schedule, on demand with Quick Focus, or under a strict unlock.
What if I have a real emergency?
Impulse is strict, not cruel. Emergency unlocks let you reach what you genuinely need, but they’re intentionally inconvenient, and blocks reactivate automatically afterwards, so one exception never quietly becomes a relapse.
Is my data private?
Completely. Your usage stats and block lists stay on your device, not on our servers. No tracking, no ads, no selling your data to anyone. Your attention is the product everyone else is trying to sell. Not here.
Does it work on Android and on my computer?
Yes. Impulse runs on iPhone and Android, plus Chrome and Safari on the desktop. The native macOS app is on the way.
